Chirp is Twitter/X’s custom-designed font, introduced in January 2021 to replace older typefaces like SF Pro, Roboto, and Helvetica Neue.
It’s a sans-serif font with a bold and stylish appearance, featuring simplicity and charm, especially suitable for headings. Chirp is used across both the web and mobile interfaces of the platform formerly known as Twitter, now referred to as X.
Chirp was designed in collaboration with the Swiss foundry Grilli Type. Twitter’s creative director for global brand, Derrit DeRouen, stated that the goal was to create a font that could better convey emotion and imperfection, moving away from reliance on other typefaces like Helvetica. The font is intended to be versatile, expressive, and contemporary, striking a balance between “messy and sharp”.
Chirp font includes: Chirp Light, Chirp Regular, Chirp Medium, Chirp Bold, Chirp Heavy, and Chirp Extended Heavy.
