The Google logo has evolved from a serif look to a modern geometric style. In 1998, it used a Baskerville-style serif font with shadows. Early 2000s versions adopted a Catull serif typeface, becoming iconic with its multi-color letters.
In 2015, Google redesigned its identity using Product Sans, a clean, geometric sans-serif created in-house, improving legibility across devices. Today, “Google Sans Flex” (a refined derivative) is used in many interfaces, keeping the friendly, minimal style while maintaining the four-color identity.
This font pack includes 3 different fonts used in the Google logo:
- Catull serif typeface, used in the old logo
- Product Sans font
- Google Sans Flex, the next generation of Google’s brand typeface and a refined derivative of Product Sans. Designed as an extremely flexible variable font, it introduces variable axes for weight, width, optical size, slant, as well as an axis for rounded terminals.
Licenses for each font:
- Catull: Created for Berthold in 1982 by German designer Gustav Jaeger, Catull has a calligraphic feel with contrasting stroke weights and distinctive serifs. It is an eye-catching choice for both text and display applications. This font is free for personal use; you can purchase the complete family here.
- Product Sans: Because it’s an internal Google variation, this version is free for personal use. However, it makes more sense to use Google Sans Flex, which is essentially the same font.
- Google Sans Flex: In 2025, Google made the Google Sans Flex font fully OFL (SIL Open Font License). This means you can use the official Google logotype for any personal or commercial purpose. Google Sans Flex even offers special glyphs to recreate the exact “Google” logotype. You can check it out in any compatible software like Photoshop.
